History of the Federation
The Great Yarmouth & District Tenants Federation was formed after the borough council shut down the Tenants Forum . That the council had set up after the Goverment said that if they had tenant participation , that they could recive futher Grants from the Goverment.

There was a public Meeting called in January 2000 at the Great Yarmouth Central Library which was adverised in the local papers for all Tenants/Leasholders of Council Housing.

At this meeting it was passed that the Great Yarmouth and District Tenants Federation be Formed.A constitution was adopted by all present. The term of office for the Executive Committee was set at the same as Councilers (Four Years)

After this first meeting several other meetings were called around the borough to inform those tenants/leasholders who could not make the first meeting, and incourage help and support from all members.Which includes all tenants/leasholders of Council Housing who are by right Members of the Federation as they live in Council Housing.

The Federation is in place to uphold the Rights of all Council Tenants/leasholders, and to help them wherever possible.

We were in the time of Best Value then.

Now the Goverment is bringing in COMPACTS (these are just agreements between The Council and The Tenants/Leasholders).

They need for this a Borough Wide Group. The Great Yarmouth & District Tenants Federation (G.Y.D.T.F.) and many smaller groups (area groups)such as The Town Centre Action Committee(T.A.C.), The Pine,Elder,Coronilla Tenants and Residents Assocation (P.E.C.T.R.A.), for Example.

These groups are compleatly independent from the Council.
